If you are a senior making advance plans for yourself, or you’re trying to find a place for Mom or Dad to get the assistance they need with the activities of daily living (ADLs), it’s important you do your research. In this way, you will feel more confident in when choosing an assisted living community.
By now you know that assisted living is for seniors who need assistance with some ADLs, but do not need the medical care provided by a nursing home. For all assisted living facilities, this should include:
• Room and board
• Assistance with medications, bathing, dressing, and grooming
• Housekeeping and laundry services
• Social programs and activities
• 24/7 staffing for safety
We’ve put together some of the FAQs we get. These are questions to ask assisted living providers as you determine the best living situation. Keep a notebook where you jot down the answers from each facility, so that you can compare their answers.
There is no simple answer this, because it depends on the type of assisted living facility and the services your senior needs. In general, a smaller home environment like Broad Creek Manor is more affordable than a spot in a larger facility that has the expenses of a larger staff and building maintenance.
According to the Genworth Cost of Care survey, the median cost nationally for a month of assisted living care is $4300. For the state of Maryland, the average cost to stay in an assisted living facility is $5000 a month. The need for Alzheimer’s or memory care will increase the cost.
If you contact us directly, we can go over what our costs cover, and our price range.
At Broad Creek Manor, we have a variety of private and semi-private rooms. Some have private patios/decks. Private rooms have a higher cost than rooms with 2 beds.
Unfortunately, no. Medicare does not cover the cost of assisted living. Medicare will continue to cover medical care.
This is a good question to ask, because the lower the ratio, the better cared for your loved one will be. We offer a 1 to 5 ratio, meaning we have one staff member for every 5 residents. This is better than the industry standard of 1 to 8.
