Memory Care in an Idyllic Setting in Harford County MD

Memory care is an integral part of the services we provide our residents here at Broad Creek Manor Assisted Living. Memory care is a broad term for the additional care our seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia receive on a daily basis.

All of our assisted living residents receive help with:

  • Activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and housekeeping
  • Monitoring of their medical needs, and regular treatments
  • Medication management
  • Provided meals, so no pot can be left on the stove

In addition, memory care residents will receive extra attention designed for them specifically, with both individual and group activities incorporated into their individual care plan. Our highly trained staff receive extra training to work with memory care residents. We take the time to get to know your loved one so that we can help them live their best lives. We will be happy to share the details of what we do so that you may incorporate some of these techniques into your next visit.

Specialized Memory Care/Dementia Care

Our residents who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and memory problems receive a higher level of care and attention. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Reminders for mealtimes, activities, dinner, and bedtime
  • Medication and pain management
  • Sensory activities and mental games to help slow the progression of neurological disease and improve cognitive function
  • Social time with the rest of our assisted living residents
  • One-on-one social interactions with our staff

Our daily therapeutic activities are designed to stimulate both mind and body. Our reminiscence therapy activities help residents recall happy memories and important people in their lives.

In addition, our assisted living manager and caring staff are trained to calmly deal with:

  • Residents who are resistant to care
  • Easily agitated residents
  • Anger and aggression from residents
  • Residents who like to wander
  • And more

By getting to know and working with our residents, we can help them live calmer, happier lives.  Establishing a routine and sticking to it can help reduce sundowning symptoms, agitation, anger, aggression, and wandering. Therapeutic activities can help improve cognitive function as well.

In addition, many of our residents have lived with a spouse or another resident with dementia, and know how to interact calmly and to alert staff to any issues they notice. Our staff will work closely with your loved one’s doctors, and communicate regularly with you about their care.

Memory Care Safety Precautions

To protect all of our residents, Broad Creek Manor Assisted Living safety features include:

  • 24-hour staffing
  • Alarms on all exterior doors
  • Keypad entry for main facility doors
  • Secure building and grounds
  • No smoking facility
  • And more

If you have a loved one who has become increasingly forgetful to the point that they have gotten lost, left a pot on the stove, or can’t manage their daily life and you cannot care for them yourself, it may be time to explore assisted living and memory care.
